Wonderful rant.

I feel the same way about anyone who stays in the spotlight too long ~ them staying "on stage" keeps a fresh face off it.

Also dislike people like Paul McCartney who throw some paint on the canvas and sell it for big bucks . . . not because the painting itself worthy of notice, but because a famous name is attached to it.

Ack!

Amy - I love your last line! You know what else? She has another book full of "truthiness" coming out in the summer (before the children's book). It's another tell-all called "Uncharted TerriTORI." I'm sure it too will be a bestseller.

Madonna made it clear with her comments about children's books all those years ago that she had no intention of joining the children's literature community. To say that there are no good stories out there for children just proves she doesn't read. And you, Madonna, are no English Rose.

At least Madonna IS talented, however. Perhaps not in writing but definitely in singing. Spelling's only talent is having been born into money.

So take your pick on which idol you want to worship, I guess.

Oh yeah. I get ya on this one. I felt the same when Madonna came out with her children's book "The English Roses" or something like that. The photo ops had her in a floral dress reminiscent of Laura Ashley and it was in order for her to appear "motherly", and she had her daughter in a matchy outfit by her side. I wanted to scream.
What compounded it was her profound utterance that she wrote it because there was so many crappy children's books with so few good role models. Oh. Really. Madonna complaining about role models? Since my teens Madonna has been the embodiment of the crap that she was now complaining about.
With Ms. Spelling's book it is similarly offensive, because no matter how famous or how infamous she is, she's clearly not a role model and has no connection to being famous other than a wealthy father who pulled strings. I'm sure she's good and wonderful in some ways, but you can't feed the world all your distasteful truthiness (trademark Colbert) without having to answer for it later.

I think the most important thing about an author should be the content of his/her book. I think it is tempting to look at someones life and try to judge if they are a good role model for a child or not, but ultimately it is what the book is saying that is of importance.

That said, if the book has no content and is poorly written, and is being published based solely on the celebrities status and thus the celebrities life and actions...well then it seems it becomes time to consider who we are asking our children to consider as role models.

Thought provoking blog post!
